Five People You Meet in Heaven

A TV movie adapted from Mitch Albom's best-selling novel of the same name, THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN stars Jon Voight (MIDNIGHT COWBOY, THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE) as Eddie, whose 83rd birthday marks the movie's opening. An impassive man of few words and a self-effacing modesty, Eddie's lifelong employment as the maintennance man at the Ruby Pier amusement park has endowed him with a stoicism puncuated by flashes of kindness. Over the years, he has grown to accept a vague disappointment in his life. But Eddie's 83rd birthday also marks his death, as he is injured while trying to save a young girl; we are then treated to Eddie's experiences in the afterlife, where he is greeted by five people whose lives were intertwined with his in more or less unexpected ways. Though at times saccharine and preachy, this is a moving tale of a man who discovers the true meaning of his life, as he looks back on it with the enhanced perspective of death.

ARK Hiking This Saturday 7/19

Arkers, can we spend our summer in cubicles or libraries? No, we can't! Arkers, let us go to where the summer belongs..... the beautiful Pacific Northwest trails!

This Saturday, 7/18 -

• We will meet at Dennis & Joyce's Casa
  - Please let me know if you need a ride and want to carpool.
  
  
• Meeting Time: 8am <-- driving time is approx 30 min. and early start avoids crowds
  
• Destination: Denny Creek Slippery Slab + Franklin Falls!
  
• Direction: Drive along I-90 East toward Issaquah/Snoqualmie, Exit #47 (before Snoqualmie Pass). Turn left at the stop sign, and cross to the north (left) side of the freeway. At the "T," stay right on Road No. 58, and pass Denny Creek Campground at about three miles. A short distance past the campground, turn left onto a .2-mile road (No. 5830). Continue to the end of Road No. 5830 and parking at 2,300 feet.

• Sunblock (we will walk mostly in the shades but bring it just in case)
• Sunglasses / Hat
  
• Camera
• WATER(!) - just put couple bottles in your backpack
  
• Bug spray - in case our bug friends are still around
  
• Shoes (please please I beg you don't wear high heels or sandals)
• Towel (we are going to a CREEK so you want to bring a towel after soaking your feet in the creek)
• Light lunch (pack a sandwich / power bars / candy / beef jerky / fruit etc so you don't starve)
  
• Trail description: Denny Creek is 2 1/2 miles round trip, elevation gain 500 feet, and Franklin Falls is 2 miles round trip, elevation gain 200 feet.
  The trail is fairly flat and suitable for all ages. One way takes about 30 minutes depending on your pace. Everyone should go at his/her own pace and should not be pressured. Our first goal is to reach the slippery slap. But for those who feel that this is not enough workout for the day, we can continue to go UP the trail for another 30 minutes and come back down. Another option is to take the Franklin Falls Trail after the Denny Creek one. These two trails shares the same parking lot so we can hike as much as we feel like to. This can be decided when everyone gets to the CREEK.

Please bring your friends to join the movie at Michael & Justina's home.

Bring your own dinner or snacks to arrive by 7pm, and the movie will start 7:30pm sharp.
